Holiday time is a very exciting time in the life of children and adults alike, but for children it is that much more. While adults still concentrate on work and their other responsibilities even around Christmas time, children focus only on the holiday spirit and revelry. Whether it is decorating the tree or reading a Christmas story for children, kids do all these activities with unmatched enthusiasm.
As a child, I remember my mother reading a Christmas story for children to us every year during the holidays. And even though she would read the same story sometimes, we would still get excited to hear it anew. Then there were also the childrens bible stories that we were encouraged to read. And even though we found the Christmas children stories for more to read, we did get a lot of knowledge from the bible stories too.
Thus, I wanted to create the same kind of holiday ambience for my kids too. It wasn’t a very easy job getting the kids to sit down and enjoy Christmas story for children because they had so many other innovative toys to distract them. The kids were obviously more inclined to play with their toys all day long than listen to childrens bible stories which they considered to be ‘boring’. But I have to say that I am glad I persisted. Because, once my kids actually heard these children stories, they loved them and were hooked on to them. It now became a holiday tradition in our home too to sit with the entire family and enjoy telling stories around Christmas time.
I found that the magic of the children stories was such that I did not have to quarrel with the kids to make them gather around for story time. In fact, it was a pleasant surprise to hear the kids wondering aloud when it would be time for the holiday stories!
No longer was I shouting at them to leave the iPad or the computer so that we could spend quality time as a family. I was happy to see that the manner in which I spent my childhood was being replicated in my home too and with my kids as well. Well ok, not my entire childhood was being replicated, but at least the holiday season was! For the time being I would certainly settle for that.
If you too make a habit of reading Christmas story for children to your kids during the holidays, you will also notice the magic of the season fill your home and lives. You might not get success in the first year itself, but if you keep at it without giving up, then before you know it, your kids too will start looking forward to the children stories during the holidays.
