The Zerg army is made up of insectoid creatures. Fast and maneuverable, Zerg players need to rely on large numbers, pre-planned flanking attacks and battle tactics to win battles. Unlike the Terran and Protoss forces, they can’t brute force attack and win games.
There is one exception, however – the Roach. This starcraft 2 strategy guide will teach how to abuse the power of the Roach in the early game to easily defeat your opponent.
The Roach is a low cost unit (only 75 minerals and 25 gas) that is built like a tank. It takes a lot of damage and gives a lot too. It’s also available early in the game on Hatchery tech needing only a Roach Warren before they can be built. Additionally, they only require one larvae to be built.
By building a Queen at your main Hatchery early in the game and using the Spawn Larvae ability to generate three extra larvae, it’s possible to produce a large number of Roaches early in the game so that you can attack your opponent before they have had enough time to build up a strong defense.
This Starcraft 2 Zerg strategy will allow you to quickly win the game or, at the very least, do a tremendous amount of damage to your opponent.
The build order for this starcraft 2 guide works as follows. The numbers in brackets indicate the food supply at which you need to perform the action – food supply can be seen at the top right of the screen -
(9) Build Overlord (11) Build Spawning Pool (10) Build 5 Drones (15) Build Gas Extractor (14) Build 2 additional Drones and move 2 drones to the Gas Extractor (16) Build a Queen; remember to use Spawn Larvae as soon as she spawns – you will hear a screeching sound effect when she spawns on the map (18) Build an Overlord (18) Build 2 sets of Zerglings – use these to destroy any scouts that may come (20) Build Roach Warren (19) Overlord (19) Build 7 Roaches once Spawn Larvae finishes; produce Zerglings and send them to your opponents base
From here, send your Roaches to the opponent’s base and start attacking. If they’ve expanded to their natural expansion, attack their base there and try to push them back into their main. If they are in their main base already, try to push up the ramp and attack them.
If your opponent isn’t prepared for this, you should be able to win the game right here and now. Roaches are very powerful at this stage in the game and, unless your opponent was very lucky, he should have a difficult time of holding them off.
If your opponent does survive your initial attack, there are two options available to you.
The first is to drop a Hatchery at your natural expansion and work on building your economy up by building more Drones and taking the second Gas Extractor in your main base. From here, you can get a Lair at your main base and start to produce higher tech units like the Hydralisk, Mutalisk or Infestor.
The other option is to once again be aggressive and attack again. To do this, drop a Baneling nest and start building Roaches and Zerglings. Once the Baneling Nest finishes building, stop producing Roaches and only produce Zerglings. Position your Roaches and Zerglings outside your opponents base and transform as many Zerglings as possible into Banelings. From here, you can push in with a Roach/Baneling attack. This is quite a risky strategy, however. If your opponent defends this attack, you will be far behind and it will be incredibly difficult to win.
